QUESTIONS TO ASK GEOFF HOON

Hello all! I am interviewing Geoff Hoon at 1:30 today at Downing Street.

I will be asking him questions about his role as City Minister and Chief Whip, what Labour's plans for London are (business, Finance, Crossrail) etc.

If you have any questions (sensible ones) please post them here and I will ask them for you!!

Has he slept well, ever since the Hutton report?

Mermaid of Moorgate said...

Yes.... Perhaps not so much mention of the Iraq war... I'll wait til later in the interview...

What actions and roles (as a politician) does he hope/believe he will be remembered for? Might be more subtle...

Is he aware of the etymology of his name?

"The term "Hoon" was first used in Australia at the turn of the 20th century where it referred to a man living off immoral earnings (i.e. a pimp). " Wikipedia

Hey Mermaid

I would like to know why the Govt have been stalling so much on Crossrail when it has obvious benefits for London and the UK in general while at the same time they are frittering money away on less important projects.

I want to know how Labour intend to keep the City ahead of its rivals. How does he intend to ensure that small businesses are allowed to florish as well as larger ones?

Ask him how a complete wanker becomes a cabinet minister. I'd really be interested to know.

Thanks!

Okay... I may not be Paxman so I'd need something more concrete than "complete w****", but thank you Dennis for your thoughtful and insightful proposal... he he he

Is he called Buff by his friends ? .

More importantly , he will be well aware that Compass ( Ken Livingstone`s fave think tank) , New Statesman being representative of left campaigning groups whithin the Labour Movement , are building up a head of steam on taxing the boardroom. They see Gordon Brown`s accession as the green light for socialist redistributive taxes and hurting high earning City People has an enduring emblematic value to the left.

Gordon Brown appears to have concluded that such a move would lose revenue but the pressurre is bound to build on him especially with the Lib Dems openly advocating a tax on wealth starting at quite low down the spectrum

How does he feel about the calls in the labour movement to milk City high Fliers and can he give London categoriocal assurnace that Labour will not kill the golden Goose out of misplaced envy.

Nice comments folks... I've been fretting about this all weekend - I want to give him a hard time a la Paxo but I'm blatantly not! I dreamed last night that I was interviewing Al Gore and Dick Cheney live on American TV, compered by Jerry Springer.
sigh.

To Geoff Hoon:

How can you possibly have any 'plans' for London when you can't control immigration ?

It's quite clear you haven't the foggiest idea about the numbers of people who will be living in London so your 'plans' are quite clearly bunk.

Mermaid of Moorgate said...

Either Hoon or I am going to be very sorry indeed...

Ask him why his grotty government never did anything about non doms and tax despite saying that they would since 1994?

Geoff
is it true that you are hung like a donkey?

Mermaid of Moorgate said...

No, he is just a donkey.

welcome back to the land of bile and slander, Hitch! xx

No way is Geoff Hoon hung like a donkey.

There was one of my favourite cartoons in Private Eye, with a city gent standing beside a newspaper poster saying 'Buy tomorrow's Times'!

He comments 'Blast, and I went and bought today's'!

Which is why I'm replying to your request 20 mins after you wanted questions... I've only just read it...

I would have asked him how he would cope when Boris becomes Mayor.

oh it's too late now but i'd love to have known what's the point in a crossrail that only takes stopping trains from one side of London to the other instead of truly linking the rail networks e.g. so an express from Norwich could run to Cardiff say through the crossrail line. Thats what I originally thought it was for when I first read about the proposal in the nineteenEIGHTIES!!

Sen. C.R.O'Blene said...

And another question...,

'Why are you panicking and fiddling with your trousers because Inheritance tax over £1m has just been announced as a headline on Mrs S's wireless...?'

You heard it here first...

I am interested in the whipping buisiness ????

You're all fab, thanks. M'sieur le Hoon was a lovely man and he laughed when I suggested he would have to seek donations from city business men, as long as it was clearly documented as such. "Are you trying to provoke me?" He also took it on the chin when, having said "I'll just check my hair before the photo shoot", I replied: "It's still there"....

very nice chap actually. Friend of Paxo... I almost got out my stapler when he said that....

Gorilla Bananas said...

You should have asked him this:

Hoon. Why has your government been so soft in dealing with the impertinent and ungrateful worms who continually insult it in full public view? How do you expect to maintain the respect of your minions with such a limp-wristed display? Isn't it about time you locked up some of these curs in the Tower of London, shortly to have their goolies whipped off in front of a baying mob?

Mermaid of Moorgate said...

Funny enough GB, I did ask him that, whereupon he stripped down to his fuscia suspenders and black basque, got out a cat o'nine tails and roared: "What do you think the Chief Whip does all day, insolent dog?"

It was a pretty good photoshoot.

lilith said...

Oh No! Mermaid...I hope you weren't infected by NuLab serum..."Hoon was a lovely man..."

Old BE said...

Lovely man he may be, but people with the air of a country solicitor should really not be in charge of the City.

Jon said...

Mermaid, where can we see the results of your quizzing of Mr H?

Electro-Kevin said...

This is how they do it - love bomb the paparazi.

Dangerous, corrupting and wicked people.

Sounds like he got an easy ride from you, Mermaid. I sincerely hope he didn't.

lilith said...

I couldn't have put it better myself, Hitch.

Why did you interview him anyway? Did you see I wrote a limerick about him cleverly rhyming 'Hoon' with 'Poon'!!

idle said...

Sorry Merms, travelling in Europe and missed your post. Where do we see the finished article?

Mermaid of Moorgate said...

Crumbs! I separated the man from his policies. I did not give him an easy ride, by all means, but regardless of that little thing called IRAQ and WMD , he seemed quite amiable.

Mermaid of Moorgate said...

I interviewed him for a profile, but if I tell you where, you will know who I am. I may post the profile online in January (publication date) so you can see for yourself.
